In southern Tanzania, on the northwest side of Selous Game Reserve, lie two small, quite off-beat national parks; Mikumi National Park and Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Mikumi is easily accessible by road. The park supports a large number of elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, eland, impala, waterbuck, reedbuck, warthog, yellow baboon, lion, hyena, antelope and many other species.
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast at 7.30 am, you will be picked up from the airport/hotel and head to Mikumi National Park via Morogoro with a packed picnic lunch. On arrival, proceed on a game drive where you will come across lion, eland, hartebeest, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, elephant, wild dog and many species of birds. You will enjoy dinner and your overnight stay at Camp Bastian.
Day 2: Full-day game drive – Mikumi National Park
After an early breakfast, you proceed on a full-day game drive in the park. The landscape of Mikumi is often compared to that of the Serengeti. You will spot many species of animals and birds on these savannah plains. Head back for dinner and your overnight stay at Camp Bastian.
Day 3: Udzungwa and Sanje Waterfalls to Dar es Salaam
After an early breakfast, start your safari to Udzungwa (approx 60 km). On arrival, start your hike on the spectacular trails leading to Sanje Waterfalls, one of the unique features of Udzungwa. Here you will get a good view of the Kilombero valley, which is ideal for agriculture. Walk back to Udzungwa town to enjoy a hot lunch. Return to Dar es Salaam where you will be dropped off at the hotel or airport.
